Hello all,
Its raining,we have a hung parliament, and my car has got a puncture, but apart from that its a grand day and we live in interesting times.
Last night, Friday 6th May, we did perhaps one of our best concerts to date in front of an audience of some 400 souls in St Peters Church Sheringham. The gig was organised in order to raise money for the Help for Heroes Charity. We were very fortunate to enlist the support of General Sir Richard Dannatt GCB,CBE, MC as well as the vicar of St Peters Church Revd Christian Heycocks RN who served with the Royal Marines Commandos in both Iraq and Afghganistan.
The evenings entertainment was started at 7.30 pm with a splendid introduction by Revd Christian Heycocks who talked briefly his time in the forces and for the need for this type of charitable support before he introduced the Shantymen. We the sang for perhaps and hour introducing a couple of new songs into our repertoire before General Sir Richard Dannatt rounded off the evening talking about the incrediable work the H4H charity does for our young service men and women. His speech was not only inspiring but done without the aid of notes, telling his audience about the remarkable work the charity is undertaking.
It was a splendid evening and I have been told by our hard working treasurer who was up early this morning counting the donations that we raised some £2,300 for the charity.
Later in the month we will be performing two gigs with our old friends the Cromer Smugglers. The first will be at the Cromer Pier Pavilion on Friday 21st May and the second will be on the following day Saturday 22nd May at the Lobster pub in Sheringham. These gigs are a part of the Cromer & Sheringham Crab & Lobster festival weekends events which we are happily supporting.
We are now well advanced with our 2010 gig list which currently stands at some 31 gigs planned for the year so far and will no doubt expand further yet. Later this year we will be travelling down to the Falmouth Festival again to renew old friendships and to support the Falmouth Branch of the RNLI with their festival of the sea. We always enjoy our time at Falmouth where we have been so well looked after and have met so many good friends.
All in all we are looking forward to 2010 and hope to see you all during the year. Take care, and I'll be seeing you.
